Dr. Louise Parente, PhD.
I, Louise Parente, have been fortunate to lead a life personally and professionally with purpose and gratitude. My experiences as a wife, mother, and grandmother have whetted and enhanced my desire to work in a profession to help others. I attained a Bachelor of Social Work (Kean University), a Master Post Graduate Certificate, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Social Work from New York University.
My work includes treating numerous populations. I have worked with challenged adults, children, and teenagers; https://drlouiseparentephd.com/about/individual, group, and family psychotherapy, education, and coaching were treatments focused on as needed.
During that time, I gave numerous presentations on multiple subjects within the community; they included Seminars, workshops, etc., on Staten Island, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Arizona, and Chicago.
During my job as a psychotherapist in Staten Island University Hospital Outpatient Psychiatry Department from 1988-1995 an invitation to teach as an Associate Professor for the Graduate Social Work Program at New York University also surfaced, something I genuinely enjoyed.
I researched and began to specialize in the treatment of eating disorders. In 1998 my dissertation, Fathers, Daughters, and Eating Problems (Copyright 1998) completed the requirements for my Ph.D. status. I am affiliated with many organizations; one is membership in the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals as a Specialist, Supervisor, and Fellow.
My desire to educate and inform the public interested in eating disorders and their connection to grief and loss, communication, and relationship is noted in my book Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow, Saying Goodbye to an Eating Problem, Changing Your Relationship with Food.
This book has received reviews from Kirkus, the Online Book Club, and the Eating Referral Journal. The acceptance of the 2021 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award has been a piece of the icing on the cake. I have been fortunate in so many life experiences, and I pray for continued quality, energy, and gratitude.
